Tips and Hints for Optimal Mouse performance
sUrface1030 Maintenance and Cord Clip Instructions

Tips for maintaining a smooth and consistent mousing experience

If you are noticing some inconsistencies in your mouse movements it could be due to your mouse being dirty. To clean your mouse follow the proper instructions provided to you by your mouse manufacturer. If you do not have cleaning instructions from your mouse manufacturer, following these simple steps can help you to maintain a more consistent mousing experience.

Note: These tips are intended for use with mechanical 'ball' style mice.

1) A mouse has what we refer to as 'feet' that are pieces of plastic or Teflon on the bottom of the mouse to help it move properly. Residue can build up onto these feet and create 'drag' affecting the performance of your mouse. Wipe off the feet with a lint free cloth to ensure they remain smooth and provide consistent movement. Slightly dampen cloth for cleaning heavy build up, taking care not to get any other portion of the mouse wet. This step is often overlooked in maintaining your mouse and can provide a quick improvement without having to perform a thorough cleaning.

2) Turn the mouse over and first remove the small 'door' or retainer ring from the bottom of the mouse and remove the ball from the ball-cage.

3) Clean the ball with a lint free cloth by carefully rubbing it and removing any dust or particles.

4) Carefully blow into the ball-cage to clear any dust or other particles that may be present.

5) For most mechanical/ball mice there are two or three 'rollers' inside the ball-cage that your mouse ball comes in contact with and have a tendency to collect particles of debris. These rollers are what communicate information to the computer reacting to your mouse movements, and therefore play an important role in getting the most performance out of your mouse. When you have dust and particle build up on the wheels of the mouse, it can cause inconsistencies in mouse movement and therefore degrade performance. Carefully remove any build up from the rollers by wiping them as clean as possible with a lint free cloth. Simply using your fingernail can also help in removing stubborn build up. Any debris not cleaned from the rollers of your mouse will cause debris to gather more easily, requiring more frequent cleaning.

6) Replace the ball back into the ball-cage and re-attach the small door completing re-assembly.
